The Cubby House" Farmstay is set on 1030 acres of pasture improved and natural bushland overlooking the picturesque Capertee Valley "The Widest Valley In The World!" at 1100m above sea level providing a pleasant, fresh climate and therefore avoids the high summer heats of more western areas. We are situated a comfortable 3½ hours drive North West of Sydney off the Castlereagh Highway/B55 in scenic Running Stream.

I have pleasure in sharing my farm including sheep, cattle, goats, chooks, ducks,  bushwalking, or just to enjoy magnificent views surrounded by spectacular sandstone cliffs and a variety of wildlife, birds and native flora. (Roos, Wombats, Echidna, Tree Ferns, Rock Lillys, etc.) You will experience the perfect environment for relaxation during your stay. "The Cubby House" is also ideal for photography, landscape painting, bird watching and star gazing. There are no set activities.

Seeing is believing. These pictures don't do this awesome view justice.

"The Cubby House" is a beautifully presented 3 bedroom cottage which accommodates up to 9 people and is privately set near the main farmhouse. The cottage is airconditioned and open plan with spacious lounge and dining area, country style kitchen, full bathroom facilities and verandah surrounds the cabin. I only take one group at a time so book early to avoid disappointment. Especially in holiday periods.

It is self-contained with just about every modern convenience provided. (Bath, Shower, Washing Machine, Iron, Stove/Oven, Refrigerator/Freezer, Kitchen Utensils, Microwave, Digital TV/DVD/VHS/CD, BBQ, Hairdryer, High Chair, Cot, Wood Heater, Firewood Supplied, Air Conditioning, Fans, Books, Games, Linen, Towels, Pillows, Doonas, Blankets and Complimentary Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Milk, Biscuits, Eggs, Shampoo/Conditioner, Soap, Toothpaste.)

I suggest you bring enough food with you for your stay before you get to Running Stream. Nearest General Store for emergency supplies is IGA Kandos 38km, Lithgow and Mudgee approx. 70km away. Closest Restaurants/Take Aways/Hotel are in Running Stream 8km, Capertee 25km or Kandos/Rylstone 38km..

The bedrooms consist of 1 king size bed in main bedroom and 2-3 single beds in each of the other 2 bedrooms. (Single Beds can be put together to make a king size bed if preferred. A cot is available on request. Advise at time of booking. Cottage sleeps up to 9 people. Only the right number of beds are made for your booking so please advise if you require a king and/or single at time of booking so that the right number of beds can be made ready for your arrival.

All you require to bring with you is food, drinks and clothing for all seasons and suitable closed in shoes for the farm, preferably not white because red dirt will stain.

Our local "Farm View" Cafe at Running Stream is now open for business Thursday to Sunday and Public Holidays. Next best/closest place to eat out or emergency supplies is the Capertee Royal Hotel/Capertee Service Station/RSL Kandos/The Globe Hotel Rylstone/IGA Kandos.

There are many scenic drives within an hours drive. Visit Wineries, Cafes, Historic Towns, Natural Wilderness Areas, Glow Worm Tunnel, Turon Technology Museum Sofala 48km, Windamere Dam 45km, Dunn's Swamp, Zig Zag Railway 79km(closed), Secret Creek Sanctuary, Turon River, Glen Davis Ruins 46km, Mt Piper Power Station Energy Expo, Hill End 84km, or stop overnight and continue your journey to Dubbo Zoo 224km etc. If you are looking for something different, Mark Lilley from Capertee Valley Helicopters may be able to take you for a scenic flight over the Capertee Valley for an Eagles View of the property and surrounds.

In brief, things you should know as follows: The cottage was established in 2005. It overlooks the Capertee Valley which is known to be the largest enclosed canyon in the world (wider, but not as deep as the Grand Canyon USA) and is located to the East of the Great Dividing Range off the Castlereagh Highway half way between Lithgow and Mudgee. The Capertee Valley also is home to some 236 species of birds and holds the record for the highest number of birds per square kilometre than anywhere else in the Southern Hemisphere and 10% of Australia's biodiversity in a world heritage listed area. The accommodation is first class and everything you could wish for is provided, including a gas barbeque. I offer comfortable accommodation and a cosy cottage, with quality beds and super warm doonas. The fireplace in the loungeroom is set and ready for action with kindling and firewood provided nearby for ongoing use.   The regular customers particularly value "the most magnificent views in Australia, great bushwalking, wildlife, natural fauna, bird life, etc.  and the chance to enjoy real peace and tranquility. It is a wonderful place to get away from it all".

Please note that mobile phone reception and Wireless Broadband is limited to the Telstra Next G Network and some new Digital Optus Network. If you have Vodaphone you may find a signal as you walk around the farm, however, it does not work at the cottage itself.

Various rock formations can be found on the property, some depicting sillhouettes, teapots, etc. Let your imagination run wild.

GUEST REVIEWS -

Just one of the shots of a sunrise with the valley carpeted in cloud taken by Margaret - May 2010.

OCTOBER 2014 MICHAEL - Awesome spot! Absolutely beautiful property with amazing views. Margaret is a fantastic host and thank you for your hospitality.

NOVEMBER 2014 NANCY AND DON - Excellent property. Comfortable and well equipped house and interesting property that caters for a variety of needs and interests. The four distinct walking tracks provide an excellent opportunity to explore the large property and fantastic views are to be had from several points on the farm. Geographically very accessible being just a few KM from a main highway.

MARCH 2015 JOHN - Fantastic views. For peace and quiet and for amazing views of Capertee Valley this is the place to be. The farm setting and the friendly host make it even better with wedge-tail eagles adding further attraction for bird-watchers. The Cubby House itself, as its name suggests, is not five-star luxury but it is comfortable enough for a couple (like us) or for a family. For the energetic there are some great walks to various lookouts.

APRIL 2015 ANGUS - Enjoyable stay. Very relaxing stay at The Cubby House. The view is fantastic and the cottage balcony looks straight across the Capertee Valley.

APRIL 2015 SUSAN - Watching Eagles fly by, amazing! This is the second time we have visited and we stayed for longer. Could have stayed some more. The view is amazing from every part of the property and the house while not luxurious is more like your own home so you feel very comfortable. Being from the city I found waking up to see lambs prancing past the bedroom window delightful and seeing Eagles for the first time in multiple was pretty special.

APRIL 2015 KAYE & CRAIG - Stunningly beautiful scenery. Craig and I thoroughly relished the tranquillity & realised how much we miss our united solitude since we relocated to civilisation (ie. town dwellers). Hostess Margaret was careful to make sure we were comfortable and had sufficient wood for the fireplace (we miss having this) so having it available for 3 nights was bliss. We will look forward to staying again if our circumstances permit especially in colder weather.

JUNE 2015 WAFA - Stunning and peaceful getaway. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cubby House. The breathtaking view was as pictured on the website and our host Margaret was extremely accommodating and welcoming throughout our stay. The location was perfect and the cabin was cosy with an open fireplace. If you're looking for peace and quiet with breathtaking views, then this is definitely the place to stay.

JUNE 2015 BEN - See your dream when awake. This was the best time that we ever had. Our group of three families really enjoyed staying in this farm. Kids had very good experiences collecting eggs, playing with sheep, sitting next to the fire out side of the cottage and watching spectacular views in front of your eyes. The Cubby House itself is a tidy three bedrooms with every necessary facility especially a nice fireplace that makes you comfortable during night when it gets cold. Do not miss the beauty of sunrise in this place, you rarely find something like this.

JULY 2015 LOU AND GAIL - Fantastic location. We enjoyed our stay immensely. The house was cosy and warm. When we weren't walking across the property we were relaxing by the fire. As photography enthusiasts we were spoiled by the immense valley, spectacular sunrise and abundant birdlife. We hope to visit again soon.

SEPTEMBER 2015 ANA - Wonderful and relaxing stay. We really enjoyed our weekend at the Cubbyhouse. The views were amazing and the opportunity to walk all round the property was great. Would recommend the Cubbyhouse to anyone looking for a quiet holiday away from it all.

SEPTEMBER 2015 KATHY - Great location and lovely views. Directions from Margaret were great and she was a good host. Fire was efficient and heated the house quickly. We were only there for a night but had a nice walk across the paddocks before we left. It was a great experience to get back onto a farm.

SEPTEMBER 2015 LINS - Lovely stay. Thank you for having us! It was a lovely stay. The house is a little dated, but that is part of the charm and it's clean and comfortable. I would absolutely recommend The Cubby House to any family or couple looking for a low key weekend on a beautiful property. You can walk for hours on the property, passing sheep, cows and kangaroos. The views are incredible and the fire place warm.

OCTOBER 2015 JESSICA - Peace, serenity and country hospitality. The Cubbyhouse Farmstay is exactly what our family needed. After a very easy drive from Sydney we arrived down a country laneway to one of the most picturesque properties you can imagine. Honestly the views over the Capertee Valley were simply sensational. Margaret our host was there to greet us and show us around the very well equipped farm home that was to be ours. There was an abundance of animals including babies to satisfy our 5, 6 and 10 year old children and hubby was thrilled with the chairs on the wrap around verandah and the prepared log fire. The children were delighted to find a box of games and I chose a book from the shelf. The beds and linen were clean and comfortable and I think I had the best night sleep ever. Morning was simply a delight, the mist coming up through the valley gave us some amazing photographs and the free-range eggs Margaret's chickens provided made for a delightful breakfast. Then there were the animals, we had ducks and ducklings, chickens and a very handsome rooster, sheep and lambs, plenty of goats, cows, a lone horse and the most amazing native birds as far as the eye could see. We took a walk with Margaret around the farm and 100 images later. I have memories that will last a lifetime. We will definitely come back again, many times and highly recommend this property to anyone that is looking for peace, serenity and country hospitality.

OCTOBER 2015 DAVE AND CORRIE - Nice quiet stay. Extremely well equipped accommodation set in an ideal location for a few days off from the outside world. Great views and the Host, Margaret, was very hospitable and not intrusive which is something that I worry about when staying at this style of accommodation. The stay has given our youngest child an appreciation of the way things work and recently commented that she hoped Margaret was getting the rain we were experiencing at home. With 2 of the 4 of us unwell when we arrived we didn't get to explore the outer reaches of the property but can see there is plenty to explore and we'll be having a look on our next trip!

OCTOBER 2015 CATHY - Comfortable - amazing views. Our stay was peaceful and relaxing with the only negative being the barking of the dogs. The Cubby House was very clean and comfortable and very private. Enjoyed the kitchen. Views are mesmerising! Good beds, plenty of warm bedclothes. Generous supplies of tea, coffee, eggs, etc. Beautiful property - plenty of walks, all with amazing views. Pleasant hostess. We saw the eagles each day and lots of birdlife, including the jenny wrens nest building. Enjoyed the goats and chickens. Good value for money.
